Texas governor under fire after death of a 3-year-old migrant child

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Governor Greg Abbott is under fire after a 3-year-old migrant child died during a bus ride from Brownsville, Texas, to Chicago, Illinois.
The child’s parents were also on the bus when the child began showing symptoms of illness, including fever and diarrhea, before losing consciousness.
As part of Operation Lone Star, launched by Governor Abbot, asylum seekers have been trafficked across the country for months in deplorable conditions.
According to the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), the bus stopped and security personnel called 911.
The child was then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to TDEM, passengers were screened for medical concerns before boarding the bus and signed a voluntary consent form to travel to Chicago.
Chicago has received at least 176 buses and more than 12,000 people in the 11 months since Abbott began sending migrants from Texas to Illinois.
The busloads of migrants have contributed to a humanitarian crisis as the thousands of new arrivals overwhelm Chicago’s resources.
Abbott’s Operation Lone Star includes a buoy barrier installed in the Rio Grande that has been criticized by the U.S. Justice Department and Mexican authorities.
Meanwhile, Mexican authorities have confirmed the discovery of two bodies in the river, one of which was found on the buoys.
