Texas billboards warn migrants of border dangers in bold campaign
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has launched a billboard campaign across Central America, Mexico, and the Texas border to deter migrants from undertaking dangerous journeys.
The billboards, written in multiple languages, highlight risks such as human trafficking, sexual violence, and consequences of illegal crossings.
Unveiling the $100,000 campaign at Eagle Pass, Abbott shared harrowing examples, including accounts of “rape trees” where migrants face assaults.
Advocates like Rose Luna of the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault emphasized the unspoken sexual violence crisis impacting women and children at the border.
Critics, however, accuse Abbott of politicizing immigration.
Amid rising migrant encounters, Abbott urged federal action while defending his controversial measures to secure Texas’ border.
