Telegram CEO arrested at Paris airport
Billionaire founder and CEO of Telegram Pavel Durov was arrested at Le Bourget airport near Paris on Saturday evening.
He was taken into custody as he disembarked from his private jet arriving from Azerbaijan.
French media sources report Durov was detained under a French arrest warrant involving allegations related to Telegram’s operations.
The warrant, which was issued by the National Anti-Fraud Office, is reportedly linked to claims of Durov’s non-compliance with legal demands.
Telegram, which boasts more than 900 million users, is known for its minimal content moderation.
It has drawn praise for promoting free speech and criticism for enabling disinformation and extremist content.
No official confirmation has been provided by French authorities so far.
