Taliban reject claims that leaders of terrorist group ISIS are in Afghanistan
KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) — The Taliban have rejected a claim by Iran’s foreign minister that leaders of the ISIS terrorist group have crossed into Afghanistan.
Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesman for the Taliban Foreign Ministry, called on Iran to provide intelligence to substantiate the claim.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had claimed that ISIS leaders had crossed into Afghanistan from Iraq, Syria and Libya in recent months.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, ISIS has carried out attacks on Taliban leaders and Afghan clerics.
It has claimed responsibility for several attacks in the country, including many on mosques.
