Steve Bannon ordered to report to prison by July 1 1
Steve Bannon, the former strategist of ex-president Donald Trump, has been ordered to begin his four-month prison sentence by July 1.
A federal jury had found Bannon guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress in July 2022.
In October, he was sentenced to four months in prison and ordered to pay a $6,500 fine.
He had defied a subpoena from the House Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack.
He appealed against the conviction, but a federal judge lifted the stay on his sentence, upholding the jury’s decision.
Congressman Ted Lieu emphasized that “no one is above the law,” referencing Bannon’s case.
Bannon’s legal team plans to continue appealing to higher courts.
If imprisoned, Bannon will join former Trump advisor Peter Navarro, who is serving a sentence for a similar offense.
