Sri Lankan monk jailed over case related to anti-Islamic comments
A court in Sri Lanka has sent a prominent Buddhist monk to jail in a case related to anti-Islam comments.
Gnanasara Thera was fined and jailed for nine months after he failed to appear before the court which issued an arrest warrant.
The monk, who represents the far-right organization Bodu Bala Sena, was sentenced to four years last year for his anti-Islamic remarks made in 2016.
He was released on bail while appealing the sentence.
Thera was charged with causing harm to national and religious harmony.
Sri Lanka has witnessed anti-Muslim incidents which triggered criticism by many, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
