South African suspect jailed for killing Palestine supporter
South African police have arrested a man for attacking a family because of their support for Palestine.
Grayson Beare appeared before the Durban Magistrate on charges of killing Halima Hoosen-Preston and critically injuring her husband.
In a social media video, Beare admitted using a knife in the attack, claiming Hoosen-Preston mocked his family’s deaths in Israel.
The court adjourned the case to June 11 and sent the accused for a mental assessment.
This incident follows a recent attack on free-Palestine supporters in Cape Town, where men with an Israeli flag assaulted women protesters.
Advocate Shameemah Salie of Al Jama-ah political party highlighted ongoing harassment of pro-Palestinian activists, including threats of rape.
Rising violence against pro-Palestine supporters in South Africa remains a significant concern.
