South Africa urges world court action amid Israeli assault on Rafah
South Africa has approached the International Court of Justice seeking urgent action against Israel.
The urgency stems from the Israeli War Cabinet’s approval to expand the ground assault to Rafah.
The South African Presidency called for immediate ICJ intervention to halt Israel’s actions and ensure humanitarian access to Gaza.
This plea follows Israel’s defiance of previous ICJ orders, with South Africa citing heightened risks to Palestinian lives and infrastructure.
Notably, South Africa invokes the Genocide Convention, highlighting severe threats to Gaza’s 1.5 million displaced residents.
The request underscores the deteriorating situation, emphasizing irreparable harm to Palestinian rights.
South Africa also asks Israel to submit an open report to the ICJ on all measures it has taken to give effect to all previous provisional measures.
