Sleep Deprivation Among Methods Used To Torture Palestinian Prisoners In Israeli Jails
On the dawn of July 24, 2018, Israeli soldiers stormed the house of Palestinian journalist Lama Khater in the city of Hebron.
Khater, a strong critic of Israel and the Palestinian Authority, was arrested in the presence of her youngest son, Yahia, who was less than 3 years old at the time.
She was transferred to Ashkelon Prison, where she was interrogated by Israeli intelligence officers for more than a month.
Khater was forced to stay awake for over 19 hours daily, particularly after she refused accusations made against her by the officers.
Some reports say her interrogations involved her being strapped to a chair for 20 hours at a time.
The mother of five children spent about 35 days in solitary confinement and underwent daily interrogation sessions.
She was alleged to have participated in social work with Hamas.
