Senate passes resolution recognizing 6-year-old Wadee Alfayoumi’s murder as hate crime
The Senate has passed a resolution recognizing the murder of six-year-old Wadee Alfayoumi as a hate crime due to his Muslim and Palestinian identity.
Wadee was stabbed to death on October 14 at his home in Plainfield, Illinois.
His mother Hanaan Shahin was also attacked but survived.
During the attack, the suspect, Joseph Czuba, who was the landlord of the building Fayoume and Shahin lived in, allegedly yelled, “All Muslims must die”.
Illinois Congresswoman Delia Ramirez stressed the resolution’s significance, which comes just weeks before the first anniversary of the child’s murder.
The landmark resolution stresses the commitment and need to combat hate, and declares zero tolerance for Islamophobia, along with all forms of discrimination.
