Sen. Graham says Israel has right to strike Gaza with nuclear weapon
Sen. Lindsey Graham is arguing that Israel should do whatever it has to do, even use nuclear bombs to strike Gaza.
In an interview on NBC News’ Meet the Press, Graham compared Israel’s position to that of the US, when it was facing destruction as a nation after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor.
That eventually led to the US’ Aug. 6, 1945, atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, during World War II.
The explosion killed an estimated 80,000 people immediately and tens of thousands more died later of radiation exposure.
Three days later, the US dropped a second A-bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people.
The senator said Israel should be given the bombs to end the war that they cannot afford to lose and work with them to minimize casualties.
His remarks came after the US halted a sizable weapons shipment to Israel due to concern about their potential use in Rafah, which is currently home to 1.5 million displaced Palestinians.
A US official who requested anonymity said the shipment included 1,800 2000-pound bombs and 1,700 500-pound bombs.
The official stressed concern about the use of the 2,000-pound bombs in the densely populated areas of Gaza.
