Sadiq Khan Announces Cressida Dick’s Resignation As London’s Met Police Chief
London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced the resignation of Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick.
Khan thanked Dick for her 40 years of public service.
But he also made it clear that he believed she wasn’t up to the task of rebuilding Londoners trust in the police force.
The force has been plagued by scandals, including racism, sexism and a serving officer murdering a young woman.
Dick became the first woman to head London’s Metropolitan Police in 2017.
She said she had “no choice but to step aside” after Khan declared he no longer had confidence in her leadership.
“Last week I made clear to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner the scale of the change required I believe is urgently required to rebuild the trust of londonders in the met, and to root out the racism, sexism, homophobia, bullying, discrimination and misogyny that still exists. I am not satisfied with the Commissioner’s response.”
