Russia sanctions 287 UK lawmakers
MOSCOW – Russia has sanctioned 287 members of the UK House of Commons in response to sanctions imposed on its lawmakers over the Ukraine war.
The Russian Foreign Ministry published the complete list of sanctioned UK parliamentarians on its website.
“In response to the decision taken by the British government on March 11 this year to add 386 deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to the sanctions list, personal restrictions are imposed on 287 members of the House of Commons of the British Parliament on the basis of reciprocity,” said a ministry statement.
It added that those who are now barred from entering Russia “took the most active part in creating anti-Russian tools” and contributed to the “groundless escalation of Russophobic hysteria in the UK.”
“The hostile rhetoric and far-fetched accusations coming from the British parliamentarians not only condone London’s hostile course aimed at demonizing our country and its international isolation, but are also used by opponents of a mutually respectful dialogue with Russia to undermine the foundation of bilateral cooperation,” the ministry said.
Taking into account London’s “bet on the consistent strengthening of anti-Russian sanctions,” it stated that work on retaliatory countermeasures, including the expansion of the Russian “stop list,” will continue.
