Rudy Giuliani permanently disbarred: legal fallout from 2020 election
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been permanently disbarred in Washington, following a federal appeals court ruling.
This decision upholds a disciplinary committee’s recommendation , which cited Giuliani’s attempts to undermine the 2020 presidential election results as part of then-President Donald Trump’s campaign.
The Court of Appeals found that Giuliani, who already lost his law license in New York, failed to justify why he shouldn’t face reciprocal punishment.
Giuliani, once celebrated as “America’s Mayor,” now faces criminal charges in Arizona and Georgia linked to election subversion.
His legal woes intensified after a $148 million defamation judgment last year.
Giuliani’s spokesperson denounced the ruling as a “miscarriage of justice.”
Some observers noted the coincidental timing with the indictment of current New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
