Rep. Al Green removed from House for demanding no cuts to medical aid
Congressman Al Green was escorted out of the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday after interrupting President Donald Trump’s address to Congress.
The Texas Democrat shouted at Trump, accusing him of having “no mandate” to cut Medicaid.
House Speaker Mike Johnson warned him to stop before ordering his removal.
Trump faced boos from some lawmakers, while others chanted “U-S-A!” as Green was taken out.
Green later told reporters he protested Trump’s budget, which proposed deep cuts to Medicaid.
He said it was “worth it” to stand against cuts to vital programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
Green remained uncertain about whether he would face formal punishment for his outburst.
Several House Democrats walked out mid-speech during Trump’s address, protesting his leadership.
The first to leave included Representatives Jasmine Crockett and Maxwell Frost.
Some revealed black t-shirts with bold messages like “No Kings live here” and “RESIST.”
Some Democrats held signs reading “Save Medicaid” and “Musk steals” as Trump spoke.
