Record number of child amputees in Gaza due to Israeli assaults
A senior UN official has revealed that Gaza now has the highest number of child amputees in modern history.
Lisa Doughten from the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says 10 children lose limbs daily due to Israel’s ongoing violence in the region.
The situation has also worsened for women, who are three times more likely to face complications during childbirth.
Doughten warns that Israel’s relentless assaults on Gaza’s health care system have left its more than 2 million residents, including more than 50,000 pregnant women, without access to essential medical care.
The World Health Organization reports severe shortages of medical supplies, with surgeries often performed without anesthesia.
The UN’s annual report on children and armed conflict issued in June highlighted Israeli forces’ role in over 5,000 grave violations against children, including killings and attacks on schools.
