Qatar teams up with Microsoft to drive AI-powered transformation
Qatar’s latest partnership with Microsoft to introduce Azure OpenAI aims to reshape its digital and AI landscape.
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) – Qatar has taken a bold step in its digital transformation journey by partnering with Microsoft to launch the Azure OpenAI service.
This initiative, unveiled during Web Summit Qatar 2025, reflects the country’s commitment to innovation and its Digital Agenda 2030.
The agreement was signed by Reem Al Mansoori, assistant undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at MCIT, and Lana Khalaf, general manager of Microsoft Qatar, reported Qatar’s The Peninsula.
The partnership, led by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), will provide government, private sector, and educational institutions access to advanced AI models.
These technologies promise to streamline processes and foster solutions like virtual assistants, AI-driven automation, and advanced analytics, boosting efficiency across sectors.
The Azure OpenAI service, supported by Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure in Qatar, allows users to leverage OpenAI’s cutting-edge language models.
Reem Al Mansoori emphasized the initiative’s significance, stating, “The launch of Azure OpenAI in Qatar marks a pivotal milestone in our journey to establish the country as a leader in digital innovation.”
MCIT underlined the initiative’s role in shaping a knowledge-based economy, focusing on ethical and responsible AI development.
Meanwhile, Microsoft emphasized its commitment to equipping Qatar with secure and innovative AI capabilities to lead in global technological advancements.
Lana Khalaf highlighted the partnership’s transformative potential, saying, “We are proud to collaborate with MCIT to bring Azure OpenAI Service to Qatar, transforming the country into an AI hub.”
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Qatar’s efforts to integrate AI into its economy and public services, aligning with global trends in digital innovation and sustainability.
