Putin Says French Proposals Could Form Basis To End Ukraine Standoff
Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is grateful to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron for his efforts to solve the standoff with Ukraine.
After nearly five hours of talks with Macron Monday at the Kremlin, Putin said he is ready for compromise on Ukraine.
He denies Russia is acting aggressively toward Ukraine or the West.
But he added that if Ukraine joins the Western military bloc, Russia could get sucked into conflict with European countries.
The two leaders voiced hope that a solution could be found to the worst crisis between Russia and the West since the end of the Cold War.
Putin said Macron had presented several ideas worth studying.
