Pulitzer-winning journalist leaves Washington Post
The Washington Post is facing a wave of resignations amid growing controversy over editorial instructions from billionaire owner Jeff Bezos.
Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Eugene Robinson resigned on Thursday.
He openly criticized Bezos’ recent memo that directed journalists to produce daily content supporting personal liberties and free-market ideals.
Robinson, who is widely respected for his incisive commentary, said the policy compromised journalistic independence and objectivity.
He joins several prominent journalists who have left due to Bezos’ controversial stance, including opinion page editor David Shipley and longtime columnist Ruth Marcus.
The departures have intensified concerns among media watchdogs about the influence of corporate ownership on editorial freedom at one of America’s leading newspapers.
