Protest over vandalism of Palestinian memorial at Marquette University
The Wisconsin Coalition for Justice in Palestine has condemned the vandalism of a memorial at Marquette University honoring Palestinians killed in Gaza.
Coalition co-chair Janan Najeeb decried the lack of media coverage of the incident, in which one of the vandals reportedly was carrying a loaded gun.
The coalition of 64 diverse organizations aims to bring attention to the issue and calls for a cease-fire in Gaza and a just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Marquette University Police Department said on April 7, the day around 100 MU students and community members created the memorial, three women were seen on camera removing Palestinian flags from it and putting them in bags.
Police said the women are not affiliated with the school and that one of them had a loaded, concealed gun with her when she was taken into custody.
The three women were part of a group called “Run for Their Lives” that seeks to draw attention to the Israeli and foreigners taken prisoner on Oct. 7 by Hamas.
