Prosecutor told: ICC is not for the West and its allies
The International Criminal Court’s prosecutor Karim Khan has disclosed that he is receiving threats amid investigations into top Israeli officials.
In an interview with CNN, Khan revealed a senior figure’s blunt statement that the court was “built for Africa and for thugs like Putin,” not for the West and its allies.
He was referring to the US opposition to arrest warrants issued against Israeli leaders.
The prosecutor has sought arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Palestine resistance leaders Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh, and Mohamed Deif.
Charges include genocide in Gaza.
Khan emphasized the ICC’s role as a bastion of law over power.
He affirmed the universality of law, urging Israel to challenge ICC jurisdiction if in disagreement.
France and Germany have expressed support for the ICC’s independence amid pressure from Israel and the US.
