Prominent Israeli commander captured, claims Hamas
Hamas has reportedly captured Israel Army Commander Nimrod Aloni
Nimrod Aloni, commander of the Israel Army, is purportedly held captive by Hamas, according to a report by The Jewish Chronicle.
The Palestinian organization published a picture of the commander of Depth Corps walking along a street in Gaza City while wearing only a T-shirt and underwear.
Yoav Gallant, Israel’s defense minister, selected Commander Aloni earlier this year to lead the Depth Corps and Military Colleges of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
When asked about the alleged captivity of Aloni, IDF stated to the The Jewish Chronicle that his captivity was “unclear and unconfirmed”.
Aloni’s capture comes after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack against Israel.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri stated that the they had captured “a big number” of Israelis, including “senior officers”.
He further added that the group was engaged in a struggle for freedom, stating: “This is not a [hit-and-run] operation; we started an all-out battle. We expect fighting to continue and the fighting front to expand. We have one prime target: our freedom and the freedom of our holy sites.”
According to the Palestinian ministry of health at least 256 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed in 24 hours of Israeli shelling, including 20 children.
