Powerful cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ likely to hit coasts of India, Pakistan
ISTANBUL (AA): Powerful cyclonic storm “Biparjoy” is moving across the Arabian Sea and is expected to hit the coasts of India and Pakistan soon.
Pakistani meteorological authorities issued a warning ahead of the “Biparjoy” storm on Friday, urging fishermen not to venture out into the open sea from Monday onwards.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in a statement that the storm “slowly tracked in north-northeast direction during past 12 hours and is now 1120 km (696 miles) south of Karachi, the capital of southern Sindh province.”
Uncertainty exists among global models regarding the track forecast of the very severe cyclonic storm category, with speeds ranging from 118-165 kilometers (73.3-102.5 miles) per hour due to shifting upper-level winds.
