Police arrest white Florida woman for murder of Black mother
OCALA, Florida – A white Florida woman accused of shooting and killing a Black mother of four was arrested Tuesday.
Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods said in a statement that 58-year-old Louise Lorincz, who opened the shooting, was arrested on several charges.
She was charged with manslaughter with a firearm and culpable negligence.
The sheriff said the defendant had a two-and-a-half-year feud with the late Ajike Owens.
She shot through her apartment door, killing Owens.
The sheriff said Owens had gone to Lorincz’s apartment to complain about her yelling and throwing skates at her children.
Lorincz had accused her of trespassing.
Sheriff’s deputies responding to a call about trespassing found Owens with gunshot wounds.
She later died at a hospital.
According to a statement from civil rights attorney Ben Crump, Lorincz had called the children racial slurs.
Lorincz claimed she acted in self-defense because Owens had tried to break down her door.
At a vigil, Monday, Pamela Dias, Owens’ mother, said she wanted justice for her daughter and grandchildren.
“My daughter, my grandchildren’s mother, was shot and killed with her 9-year-old son standing next to her. She had no weapon. She posed no imminent threat to anyone,” the elderly lady told TV channels.
