Piccadilly circus lights up for Ramadan celebrations in England’s London
King Charles and Queen Camilla join festivities to mark the start of Ramadan with community engagement
LONDON (MNTV) – Piccadilly Circus in central London was illuminated with festive lights for the third consecutive year as part of Ramadan celebrations.
The Ramadan Lights were officially switched on by the Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, as reported by several newspapers across England.
In addition to the lights, King Charles III and Queen Camilla also marked the beginning of the Muslim holy month by joining a charity initiative in Soho in the West End of London.
The royal couple helped pack food donation boxes at Darjeeling Express, a restaurant in Kingly Court, alongside a group of Muslim women, including professional rugby player Zainab Alema and author Hajera Memon.
Ramadan, which is set to begin on Friday evening and run until March 30, is observed by millions of Muslims worldwide, who fast from dawn to dusk, abstaining from food and drink, including water.
According to BBC, during their visit, the Queen met with a mother and two daughters supported by Doorstep, a charity that aids families awaiting permanent housing.
The royal pair also helped staff at the restaurant pack biryani boxes to donate to Doorstep and packed dates into small bags to be sent to hospitals during Ramadan.
The King later visited Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, where Syrian chef Imad Alarnab, a refugee and entrepreneur, hosted British Syrians involved in various fields, including filmmaking, medicine, and charity work.
The royal involvement, alongside the iconic lighting of Piccadilly Circus, emphasizes the spirit of community and charity that characterizes the month of Ramadan in London.
