Palestinians will not accept resettlement plans, alternative homeland: presidency
RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – The Palestinian people will not accept resettlement plans or an alternative homeland, the presidency said.
“The (Israeli) occupation authorities are expanding their all-out war on the Palestinian people in the West Bank to implement their plans aimed at displacing citizens and carrying out ethnic cleansing,” spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a statement.
He warned of grave consequences from the Israeli plans on the future of the entire region.
“These aggressive policies carried out by the occupation forces in the West Bank have led to the death of 29 citizens, hundreds of wounded and detainees, in addition to the destruction of entire residential blocks in the Jenin and Tulkarem refugee camps, the displacement of thousands of citizens, and massive destruction of infrastructure,” he added.
He called on the US to intervene “before it is too late to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression, which will lead to an uncontrollable escalation, with consequences that everyone will bear.”
On January 21, the Israeli army launched an assault on Jenin city and its refugee camp, killing at least 26 Palestinians. The offensive was later expanded to the city of Tulkarem, where at least three Palestinians were killed.
US President Donald Trump suggested last weekend that Palestinians in Gaza should be relocated to Jordan and Egypt, stirring controversy. He called the enclave a “demolition site” after Israel’s war, and demanded ‘clean out the whole thing!’ His proposal, however, caused deep offense to the Palestinians and was also vehemently rejected by Amman and Cairo.
A six-nation Arab ministerial meeting in Cairo earlier on Saturday firmly rejected Palestinian displacement from Gaza and renewed calls for implementing a two-state solution to the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
“The Palestinian people will not accept any plans for resettlement or an alternative homeland,” Abu Rudeineh said. “Threatening our people will not be beneficial to anyone; rather, it will lead to widespread destruction here or in the region, whether today or tomorrow.”
The Israeli escalation in the West Bank came after a cease-fire and prisoner exchange deal took hold in Gaza on January 19, following 15 months of Israel’s genocidal war that killed over 47,500 Palestinians and reduced the enclave to rubble.
Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, more than 900 Palestinians have been killed across the West Bank in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers.
The Palestinian people have been living in the region for generations spanning millennia as opposed to Jewish immigration to the region which began in the 20th century following the Balfour Declaration.
