Palestinian premier escorted by 30 foreign envoys to Nablus
ISTANBUL (AA) – Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh paid a visit Thursday to Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank and was escorted by 30 foreign ambassadors and consuls after the Israeli army lifted a 21-day closure of the city.
“We are in Nablus, accompanied by 30 ambassadors from around the world, to stress an end to the occupation and for its demise, and to reject collective punishment against our people,” Shtayyeh said at a news conference, according to the official Wafa news agency.
“The international community must provide protection for the defenseless Palestinian people, implement UN resolutions and stop the (the Israeli) occupation and its crimes,” he added.
EU Representative to Palestine, Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff, expressed full solidarity with Palestinians in Nablus and said his visit was to hear from residents about the violence of Israeli settlers.
Israel closed all entrances leading to Nablus on Oct. 12.
