Palestinian man with Down’s Syndrome killed in Israeli raid, family alleges
Outrage is growing after reports that the Israeli military allowed one of its dogs to maul and kill 24-year-old Mohammed Bhar, an autistic Palestinian man.
He also had Down’s syndrome.
Bhar’s family says that on July 3, they were forced to evacuate their home in the Sujaya neighborhood east of Gaza City amid bombardment.
His 70-year-old mother, Nabila Bhar, told the BBC she witnessed the dog attack her son and that he was unable to fend it off.
The military dog bit his chest, hand and then arm.
She was stopped by Israeli soldiers from reaching her son, who was unable to speak.
The family sought help from the Red Cross, which reported noncooperation from the Israeli military.
When Israelis allowed the family to return, they discovered Mohammed’s decomposing body.
