Palestinian journalists awarded for fearless reporting in Gaza
Amnesty International Australia has honored four Palestinian journalists with its inaugural Human Rights Defender Awards.
The award recognizes their courageous reporting during Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza.
Awardees include Bisan Owda, known for her raw video series “It’s Bisan from Gaza and I’m Still Alive,” and Anas Al-Sharif, who dedicated his award to fallen colleagues.
Plestia Alaqad, now based in Australia, uses her storytelling and poetry to spotlight Gaza’s plight, while Ahmed Shihab-Eldin amplifies these narratives globally through digital media.
These journalists have risked their lives to document atrocities and demand accountability.
Amnesty International emphasized the critical role of press freedom, saying attacks on journalists are attacks on truth itself.
This recognition also honors the 138 journalists killed in Gaza.
