Palestinian government forms committee to run post-war Gaza
ANKARA (AA) – The Palestinian government has formed a working committee to oversee the Gaza Strip following Israel’s genocidal war.
“The Palestinian government, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, has decided to form a working committee to manage the affairs of the Gaza Strip,” Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa told a Cabinet meeting.
“The government…is working to accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid, open roads, remove rubble, and provide suitable gatherings to shelter those whose homes were destroyed, in preparation for comprehensive reconstruction,” he added.
The Gaza Strip had been under the control of Palestinian resistance group Hamas for years, as opposed to the PLO that maintains hold over the West Bank. However, following the cease-fire deal between Hamas and Israel, Gaza will have an increasing role of the PLO in its administration. The PLO does not subscribe to a militant ideology as opposed to Hamas which believes in armed resistance against the Zionist occupation.
One of Israel’s primary aims through its genocidal operation have been to eliminate the role of Hamas in the future of Gaza.
The first six-week phase of a cease-fire agreement between Hamas and Israel took hold in Gaza on January 19, halting Israel’s war that killed more than 47,500 people and left the enclave in ruins.
