Palestine to Ensure Safe Evacuation of Nationals from Ukraine
Palestine has begun negotiations with the Red Cross in order to evacuate its nationals from Ukraine, said an official.
“We contacted the International Committee of the Red Cross to provide safe passages for the evacuation of our students and families from Ukrainian cities,” Ahmed al-Deek, an adviser to the Palestinian foreign minister, said in a statement.
He said that around 1,100 Palestinians have been evacuated from Ukraine since the outbreak of the conflict.
“Palestinian embassies in Poland, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia continue to receive students and members of the Palestinian community, who are being evacuated from Ukraine,” he added.
According to Palestinian estimates, there are over 3,000 Palestinians in Ukraine, including 700 university students.
More than 1.5 million people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries, according to the UN refugee agency.
