Palestine hails UN vote in favor of Palestinians rights

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – Palestine has hailed a UN General Assembly vote in favor of four resolutions in support of the Palestinian cause.

In a statement, Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said the UN vote reflects the support of the international community to Palestinians’ rights.

“The voting in favor of the four resolutions is evidence on the global consensus regarding the Palestinian cause, and the right of our Palestinian people to live in freedom and dignity, and their right to self-determination, independence and the return of the refugees,” al-Maliki added.

On Wednesday, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to commemorate the “Nakba Day” on May 15, 2023. The resolution is the first to be adopted by the General Assembly to mark expulsion of Palestinians from their own homeland with the creation of Israel.

The Nakba Day is marked by the Palestinian people on May 15 of every year to remember the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes and areas in 1948 after the founding of Israel.

The second resolution calls for solving the Palestinian issue on the basis of the relevant UN resolutions.

The UN General Assembly also adopted two draft resolutions under the titles “Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People” and “Special information programme on the question of Palestine for the Department of Global Communications of the Secretariat.”
