Palestine celebrates ‘historic’ UN vote for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories
Palestine has hailed a “historic” UN General Assembly resolution demanding Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories within 12 months.
It marks a significant moment as it is the first submitted by Palestine since gaining additional rights at the UN in May.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas praised the resolution, which was passed with 124 votes in favor and 14 against.
It comes as a renewed hope for the Palestinian people amid Israel’s ongoing war and violence in Gaza and the West Bank.
Abbas described the decision as a step towards establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urging swift implementation and accountability for Israel’s violations of international laws.
Despite a UN Security Council ceasefire call, Israel continues its war on Gaza, intensifying the urgency for action.
