Pakistan promises China naval base in Gwadar
Pakistan has reportedly promised China a military base in the strategic port city of Gwadar, which is crucial to Beijing’s Belt-and-Road Initiative.
The city is vital for China’s westward economic expansion, reducing its reliance on the South China Sea for trade routes.
Despite previous resistance, Pakistan’s economically weakened government has agreed to allow future deployment of Chinese military assets at the port.
Media reports reveal that Pakistan, which is facing strained ties with the US, has offered China the base in exchange for increased economic and military support.
Beijing has become Pakistan’s main defense partner, supplying advanced weaponry and jointly developing next-gen military aircraft.
