PAKISTAN AND CHINA CALL FOR RELEASE OF AFGHAN BANK ASSETS
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan met with China’s President Xi Jinping SHI JINPING while attending the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games 2022 in Beijing.
The duo discussed a range of issues, including Afghanistan.
In a joint statement released Sunday by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the leaders agreed a peaceful, stable Afghanistan is in the region’s best interest.
Khan and Jinping also discussed the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan calling on the international community to support its people through humanitarian aid.
They also called for the release of Afghanistan’s frozen central bank assets, mainly being withheld by the United States.
