Outgoing US House Republican Liz Cheney Endorses Democrats In Tight Race
On Thursday, outgoing Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney threw her support behind a Democratic lawmaker facing a tight re-election race in Michigan.
Her endorsement of Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin marks a first in her political career.
Cheney served with Slotkin on the Armed Services Committee.
She called Slotkin an “honorable public servant” who “wants what’s best for the country, and is in this for the right reasons.”
Cheney has been on the outs with the Republican Party as it has increasingly embraced Trump’s Make America Great Again ideology.
She has been a stark critic of Trump and his claims of 2020 election fraud.
She was also a pivotal member on the House panel probing the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, which was led by supporters of Trump.
Cheney failed to win her party’s nomination in August.
