Oscar Winner Riz Ahmed Joins Fellowship For Muslim Writers And Directors
Acclaimed British actor Riz Ahmed and his production company, Left Handed Films, will partner with Pillars Fund on a new fellowship for aspiring Muslim writers and directors.
Ahmed said Muslim communities in the U.S. and U.K. “are amongst the most economically disadvantaged.”
He said there’s no other program like the Pillars Artist Fellowship, which invests in the talent pipeline.
The initiative, sponsored by Netflix and Amazon Studios, awards fellows $25,000 each, and provides mentorship from industry experts.
Fellows also get access to an advisory committee of award-winning Muslim actors, directors, producers and writers.
The fellowship offers eight months of programming, including retreats in London, New York and Los Angeles.
