OIC, GCC Welcome UN Resolution Designating Houthis As Terrorist Group
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation or OIC and the Gulf Cooperation Council or GCC on Tuesday welcomed the U.N. Security Council’s classification of Yemen’s Houthi rebel group as terrorists.
The Security Council also extended an arms embargo to all the Houthi members.
The OIC said it hopes the U.N.’s decision will contribute to ending the actions of the Houthis and their supporters.
It will limit the threat of the Houthi militias to the Yemeni people, as well as international shipping and neighboring countries, the OIC said.
GCC Secretary General Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf expressed support for the U.N.’s decision toward ending the Houthis’ activities and the bloodshed of the Yemeni people.
