Nigerian university unveils digital entrepreneurship school
LAGOS, Nigeria (MNTV)- The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has launched its inaugural Spring School in Digital Entrepreneurship and Digital Cultures, an initiative designed to foster job and wealth creation through technology.
This program aims to redefine the role of the knowledge industry in driving tech-based human capital development in Nigeria, reports The Punch.
Professor Tunde Ope-Davies, Director of the Centre for Digital Humanities and the event’s convener, said that the initiative is UNILAG’s contribution to socio-economic development and the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy. “The Spring School in Digital Entrepreneurship will focus on technology-based skills acquisition and human capital development for humanities and social sciences graduates and scholars,” he stated.
He further outlined the program’s ambition to train thousands of graduates over the next few years, thereby increasing the pool of tech-skilled graduates who can positively impact the digital economy.
“In a rapidly evolving global landscape, the Spring School in Digital Entrepreneurship is designed to equip fresh graduates, professionals, and aspiring entrepreneurs with the essential skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to thrive in the 21st-century tech-driven workplace ecosystem and digital economy,” Ope-Davies explained.
He also highlighted that the program goes beyond teaching skills, aiming to cultivate a mindset of innovation, resilience, and adaptability. “We are not just teaching skills for creating digital-based businesses; we are cultivating a mindset of innovation, resilience, and adaptability.
“We are hoping to also train them to become successful future leaders that can drive positive change in their communities and the larger society,” he added.
The week-long Spring School, held at the Faculty of Arts, features workshops and panel discussions covering various aspects of digital entrepreneurship. These include e-commerce and online business development, data analytics and digital strategy, introductory coding and app development, and funding and investment strategies for startups. The program is open to postgraduate students, recent graduates, and aspiring entrepreneurs.
