Nigeria promises help to South Sudan to end insurgency
KANO, Nigeria (AA) – Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to help South Sudan to end insurgency, and restore cohesion in the country.
A statement issued by the presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina said that President Buhari had met Albino Mathom Ayuel, special envoy of South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
“We will study your situation, and see how we can help,” President Buhari told him.
The special envoy apprised the president about the situation in his country,“ particularly about the activities of insurgents and groups like Boko Haram, which have been killing and maiming people.”
He then urged for “close collaboration on security, particularly the training of forces, since Nigeria has an experience in this area.”
Albino Ayuel said South Sudan was keen on curbing the activities of insurgents.
