New Zealand festival to celebrate Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage
Asia’s Harmony Festival in Tauranga to spotlight Indonesia’s ethnic diversity
TAURANGA, New Zealand (MNTV) – A cultural festival in New Zealand will shine a light on Indonesia’s vast ethnic and linguistic diversity while celebrating shared traditions across Asia.
The Asia’s Harmony Festival, organized by Bay of Plenty Indonesia Inc, will take place on April 12 at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre in Tauranga.
The event is a collaboration with the New Zealand-China Friendship Society, Tauranga Filipino Society Inc, and the Tauranga South Korean Community.
“With over 1,300 ethnic groups and 250 languages, Indonesia is the most diverse country in the world,” said Syully Dobson, chairwoman of BOP Indonesia Community Inc.
“We’re excited to showcase what lies beyond the usual tourist routes—from Sabang to Merauke.”
The festival will feature traditional music, dance, and food, highlighting both the uniqueness and the shared threads between Indonesia and its regional neighbors.
“Our goal is to explore not just what makes each culture distinct, but how we’re connected through history and heritage,” Dobson said.
“This kind of celebration has never been brought to Tauranga before.”
Asia’s Harmony Festival aims to foster cross-cultural understanding, deepen appreciation for diversity, and strengthen community bonds through art, performance, and storytelling.
