New Syrian flag raised at embassy in Washington
The Syrian revolutionary flag was raised at the Syrian Embassy in Washington, marking a historic moment and symbolizing the fall of the Assad regime.
This symbolic act reflected the seismic political shift in Syria.
On November 27, Syrian opposition forces launched a lightning offensive, capturing key cities, and then took the capital, Damascus, on Dec. 8.
This rapid advance, supported by defecting military units, led to the collapse of the Assad regime after 13 years of civil war.
Assad and his family fled to Moscow, where Russia granted them asylum.
