New mosque in England to open with Islamic Museum and and a community hub
BLACKBURN, England (MNTV) — Al-Buraq Masjid, a new mosque and community hub in Blackburn city of England, is set to open its doors to the public, offering a range of services including a dedicated women’s section, a funeral facility, and the region’s first Islamic Museum.
Made possible through a monumental community fundraising effort, the mosque is built on spare land behind Devonport Road and replaces the Islamic Education Centre as the area’s central place of worship, as reported by Lancashire Telegraph.
Designed with modern Islamic architecture, the mosque features a spacious prayer hall, a panoramic view of the town, and plans for a ‘Blackburn community fridge’ food bank to support local residents.
A key highlight of the mosque is the Islamic Museum, which will house rare Ottoman-era artefacts, including the original key to the Kaaba in Makkah.
The museum aims to promote cultural education and appreciation through exhibits and outreach programs for schools and community groups.
The mosque is also focusing on accessibility, with a women’s prayer area, a dedicated entrance, and plans to host women-led events.
Volunteers from ‘Team Buraq’ have been instrumental in raising funds for the project, which is expected to become a vital hub for worship, education, and charitable outreach.
The mosque will host two open days next weekend, ahead of the start of Ramadan on February 28, marking the beginning of its religious services.
