New center for Spanish-speaking Muslims opens in Houston
A new education and community center in Houston aims to highlight the rich history of Spanish-speaking Muslims.
Founded by Jaime “Mujahid” Fletcher, who turned his life around after leaving gang culture, the Centro Islamico provides materials to educate the public about Islam.
The 10,000-square-foot facility features Andalusian-inspired architecture, and includes a prayer area, as well as a museum dedicated to 800 years of Muslim history in Spain.
As well, it offers Friday sermons in Spanish and English, aiming to bridge cultural gaps and promote understanding.
The center’s grand opening will be held on November 16.
