Netanyahu admits ‘pressure to end the war’, claims Israel has American people’s support
TEL AVIV – AFP
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has admitted he has been under “pressures to end the war” on Gaza.
“Today I am pushed, together with my friends, to end the war before we achieve all its goals. These pressures are increasing,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
He also warned the citizens of Israel against desiring “general elections during a war”. “This is exactly [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar’s dream. This is exactly [Hezbollah chief] Nasrallah’s dream. This is exactly Iran’s dream. They are just waiting for it.”
He further said that ultra-Orthodox public of Israel would have to bear the “burden of security . . . we are setting targets for recruitment into the IDF [Israeli army] and national service.”
Besides, he said the government would allow freedom of worship in Al-Aqsa Mosque “within safe conditions. We have no intention of restricting the freedom of worship of Muslims at all. On the contrary, we maintain it.”
He claimed Israel had support of the American public. “This week, the study by the Harvard Harris Institute was published in the United States. The study states that 82 percent of the American public supports Israel,” Netanyahu said.
