NBA-style Muslim League to host all-star game at Delta Center
An NBA-style basketball league for Utah’s Muslim community is gaining popularity.
The Utah Muslim Basketball Association (UMBA) is set to host its first-ever All-Star game at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
Founded by UMBA Commissioner Azeem Mohammed, the league has already organized tournaments, watch parties, and clinics for young Muslims.
Next week, the winter postseason championship game will take place in West Valley City.
UMBA is also committed to charity, as 100% of proceeds from the All-Star game will go to a non-profit organization selected by the community.
The league has also built faith and brotherhood among the players, who gather every week for prayer.
Many say they have reconnected with Islam through the league.
Although the UMBA primarily serves Muslim players, it welcomes athletes of all faiths and backgrounds.
