Muslim women harassed while praying in Georgia
A group of Muslim women say they were harassed while praying at a parking deck in Alpharetta, Georgia.
The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations or CAIR said a man in a Tesla Cybertruck stalked and insulted the women at the Avalon shopping center.
The man allegedly shouted, “Go back to your country,” and, “You are worshipping a false god.”
Alpharetta police responded after getting a call on March 31.
Officers met with the caller and reviewed a video of the incident.
Police said the man’s comments were disgusting but ruled that no crime was committed.
They said both parties were exercising their First Amendment rights.
In a statement, police said Alpharetta values diversity, and while the remarks are offensive, free speech is protected.
CAIR-Georgia Executive Director Azka Mahmood condemned the harassment.
She said the incident highlights the rise of Islamophobia in America.
Mahmood called the remarks racist and offensive and confirmed a police report has been filed.
Police say the investigation is closed unless new evidence comes forward.
