Muslim-owned schools lead in South Africa’s matric results
Faith-Based institutions achieve top ranks, maintain 100% pass rates in national exams
DURBAN, South Africa (MNTV) — Muslim-owned schools in South Africa have once again outperformed their counterparts in the country’s matriculation exams, achieving top national rankings and a consistent track record of excellence.
At Orient Islamic School, Durban’s largest Muslim school, students maintained a 100% pass rate for the sixth consecutive year, a feat few institutions can match.
The school’s top achiever, Atiyyah Limalia, earned eight distinctions, ranking second nationally in the Independent Schools category.
Limalia credited her success to discipline, faith, and family support, particularly after losing her father in 2023.
“The thing that got me through was my prayers,” Limalia said. “Waking up for Tahajjud (voluntary pre-dawn prayer) and taking time to reflect with the Quran helped me manage the stress.”
In Lenasia, Umar Vadi, a student at a leading Muslim secondary school, secured seven distinctions.
In an interview with Al Qalam magazine featuring South Africa’s vibrant Muslim community, Vadi described perseverance as the key to success and urged future students to stay focused, especially in the final stretch before exams.
While celebrating his academic success, Vadi also stressed the importance of balancing secular education with Islamic studies.
In KwaZulu-Natal, Abdullah Abisola, a graduate of Al Falaah College, ranked third in the province with a 94% aggregate and seven distinctions.
His journey into medicine was shaped by his battle with Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss.
“At first, I was trying to hide my diagnosis. But over time, I accepted it and let it fuel my passion for medicine,” said Abisola, who is now set to begin medical school at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Muslim-owned schools in South Africa have continued to deliver high academic standards, producing top achievers year after year.
Their emphasis on discipline, faith, and quality education is setting them apart as some of the best-performing institutions in the country.
