Muslim journalists engage Benin’s Chief Imam to tackle misinformation
Collaboration aims to promote balanced reporting on Islam and positive narratives globally
ABUJA, Nigeria (MNTV) — Muslim media professionals in Nigeria have sought the guidance of the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulfatah Enabulele, to address misinformation about Islam and highlight the contributions of Muslim communities.
The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) met with the Chief Imam to explore ways to ensure accurate and balanced reporting of Islamic matters.
The discussions focused on building a strong partnership to counter negative stereotypes about Muslims and promote positive narratives about the faith and its followers.
Speaking during the meeting, Chief Imam Enabulele commended the efforts of the media practitioners, emphasizing their critical role in shaping public perceptions about Islam.
Acting President of the Edo State chapter of MMPN, Mallam Abdullah Abdulkadir, stressed the importance of combating long-standing misinformation about Islam.
He added, “We aim to highlight the positive contributions of Muslim leaders and organizations to society.”
The discussions also included reflections on the ongoing Ramadan season.
Chief Imam Enabulele highlighted the spiritual significance of Ramadan as a time for self-reflection, prayer, and community support.
He urged Muslims to extend kindness and share their blessings with those in need during the holy month.
Both the MMPN and the Chief Imam expressed their commitment to fostering greater understanding of Islam through collaboration and promoting the community’s active role in society during Ramadan and beyond.
The partnership seeks to ensure that global audiences gain a more accurate understanding of the Muslim faith and its diverse contributions to building inclusive societies.
