Muslim filmmakers win top prizes at Cameroon film festival
Documentary on African cinema pioneer, Moroccan short film honoured at prestigious Yarha event
YAOUNDE, Cameroon (MNTV) – The Yarha International Film Festival, a major event celebrating African cinema, concluded in Cameroon, recognising outstanding filmmakers and naming its cultural ambassadors for 2025.
This year’s Best Documentary Film award went to Salam Zampaligre, a 45-year-old Muslim filmmaker from Burkina Faso, West Africa.
His documentary explores the life and legacy of Drissa Touré, a groundbreaking filmmaker from Burkina Faso known for his unconventional approach to storytelling.
In the best short film category, Moroccan director Achraf Ajraoui took home the top prize, further underscoring the festival’s mission to promote new voices in African cinema and elevate regional stories on the global stage.
The Yarha Film Festival serves as a platform for emerging African filmmakers, providing them with international exposure while showcasing the continent’s diverse cultures, traditions, and cinematic artistry.
